Dr Judith Willkomm

Academic staff member, team Professor Beate Ochsner

Judith Willkomm has been working at the University of Konstanz since April 2020 as an academic assistant in Beate Ochsner's research group in the Department of Literature, Art and Media Studies (LKM). In her research approach, she combines ethnographic methods with a media theoretical perspective and thus points to the everyday dimension of media practices and the interplay between technical media and human senses.

In her current research projects, she is working on the link between professional sport and computer games. Furthermore, she is interessted in the knowlegde production using different modes of mediatised senses in the example of video assistance in professional football, live audio description at major football events and sign language interpreting via video conferencing (VR).

As a historical case study, she is working on the sound recordings and documentation of the Research Centre for Bioacoustics in the Max Planck Society, Tübingen, as well as the correspondence of the then leading professor Albrecht Faber.

Her dissertation Tiere - Medien - Sinne: Eine Ethnographie bioakustischer Feldforschung (Animals - Media - Senses: An Ethnography of Bioacoustic Field Research) has just been published by J.B. Metzler-Verlag (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-476-04827-1).
